Homemade Deodorant

Effective, gentle, non-toxic- that’s the whole point of homemade products, right?  To be healthier, to know what the ingredients are.

Diet is a huge factor for sweat, if you can’t find a deodorant that works, take a look at your food and do some changes there. Processed foods play a huge role in this and I would suggest switching to whole ingredients if possible. This may be a little TMI but ever since switching, I smell way better! Some days I even go without wearing deodorant. Shhhhh.

When I post Healthy Home recipes I like to explain why I chose each ingredient. I believe each ingredient should have a purpose – no fillers here!

Coconut Oil– We all know coconut oil is good for us, ingesting it or for topical use. It has antibacterial properties, smells wonderful, and the consistency keeps the deodorant spreadable.

Kokum Butter– If you’ve never heard of this, you are missing out! I like to use this instead of Cocoa butter or Shea butter. This amazing butter helps regenerate worn skin cells. With all the shaving that us girls do, I believe, this is a must. Plus, I don’t like the smell of shea butter, to be honest. Am I the only one?

Beeswax– Used to help with skin irritations and has antibacterial and antiviral properties to it. Another good one for us shaving girls.

Arrowroot Powder– Draws out toxins and thickens the deodorant. I would use this instead of cornstarch as suggested in other recipes. I think it works better and it is non-GMO. However, you can find non-gmo cornstarch.

Kaolin Clay– Purifies and detoxes the skin. Might as well add these benefits to destink those pits!

If you don’t have a scale I highly suggest this one. I use it through my other Healthy Home recipes and in my kitchen regularly.

Melt the first 3 ingredients in a double boiler. I just used a glass bowl in a bigger pot.

Have you ever made your own deodorant? How did it go and what fragrance did you use?

Finally! – a diy deodorant that works and without irritation. After lots of trial and error and determination, this is the recipe for me. I did omit the beeswax because I put mine in a glass jar and wanted a less dense consistency. This deodorant is pure perfection! Thank you so much for posting this!
